What We Shoot
The Bear Creek Volunteers host four shoots, across three shooting disciplines. We shoot cowboy action every second Saturday. Historic 3 Gun/Wild Bunch shoots are hosted on the third Saturday. Every fourth Wednesday, we hold an “Old Coot” shoot, that shoots both Cowboy and H3G/WB depending on your preference. Fourth Saturdays host our .22 Rimfire shoot.
During the warmer months, gates open at 9 AM and a mandatory safety meeting at 9:30 AM. During the winter, these times are delayed by an hour. Check our Facebook or email for details. All of these are detailed below.
Cowboy Action Shooting
Every 2nd Saturday Bear Creek holds a SASS cowboy shoot. These consist of 5 stages featuring a pair of single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifle, and a shotgun. Guns should be models designed before 1899, or faithful reproductions of these guns.
Historic 3 Gun
Every 3rd Saturday Bear Creek holds a Historic 3 Gun Shoot. If you are accustomed to Wild Bunch, you’ll be able to jump right in, as H3G uses a similar, but expanded rule set. These consist of 5 stages featuring a 1911, Model ‘97 or 12 shotgun and category specific rifle. H3G categories are primarily defined by the rifle, such as pistol caliber lever action rifle, rifle cal. lever action, bolt action mil-surp, M1 carbine, or Thompson/Homesteader. Guns should be models designed before the end of WWII or faithful reproductions of these guns.
Old Coot Shoot
Every 4th Wednesday Bear Creek holds an Old Coot shoot. These consist of 5 stages of shooters choice for Cowboy or Historic 3 Gun, shooters preference.
.22 Rimfire
Every 4th Saturday Bear Creek holds a .22 Rimfire shoot. This is considered an “Entry Level” shooting sport, particularly great for new shooters however all shooters will get enjoyment out of the challenge.Each stage consists of seven targets including a red stop target. Firearms are restricted to magazine fed only. Commonly used firearms are Ruger 10-22 and Ruger Mark X series handguns.
