.22 Rimfire

The .22 Rimfire Challenge is considered an “Entry Level” shooting sport, particularly great for new shooters however all shooters will get enjoyment out of the challenge. Due to the entry level nature SAFETY is first and foremost. Each stage consists of seven targets including a red stop target. Targets may be shot in any order except the stop target MUST be shot last. Missed targets are allowed to be made up prior to hitting the stop target with a maximum of 11 total shots. Each stage consists of 5 consecutive strings of 7 targets, slowest string dropped. The 4 fastest times are added together to get the overall stage time.

Firearm Information: Due to safety difficulties with tube fed rifles and revolvers our matches are RESRICTED TO MAGAZINE FED FIREARMS ONLY. Commonly used firearms are Ruger 10-22 and Ruger Mark X series handguns. We highly recommend having 5 magazines (10 rounds) for each firearm to one move smoothly through the stage. There are two categories, Limited and Open. Limited is restricted to only Static sights. Open division allows all other lighted optical sights. Typically 200 rounds ammo will be needed per match.

Procedure: The shooter first stands within a 22”x22” square. (This is the only allowed area to unbag the firearm from.) The Timer then gives the command “Unbag and make ready”. The shooter will then unbag, remove the tag, and load the firearm. When ready the shooter will aim towards the Start sign. Timer says “Shooter Ready?” The shooter MUST Deny is not ready, a non-answer will be considered a sign of ready and focused. When the timer beeps the shooter will then engage the 7 targets in their chosen order with the red stop target last. After engaging the stop target the time will read off the time to the score keeper and give the command “reload.” After the command is given shooter will drop the magazine and load the next magazine. This is repeated until all 5 strings are completed. On completion. The shooter is to clear the firearm, show the cleared chamber to the timer, insert tag and bag firearm. The shooter may then step out of the box. Magazines may be reloaded between stages but must be put in pocket separate from the firearm. Each weekend will consist 4-6 stages, half with rifle and the other with pistol. The procedure is the same for either firearm, however the targets are at appropriate distances for the relative firearm.

Safety Measures:
-All firearms are tagged and bagged until shooter comes to the square.
-No hands on firearm until Timer gives the “Unbag and make ready” command.
-Firearm must be pointed down range when unbagged. If this is not the case rebag and rotate bag containing firearm. Do NOT lay hands on the firearm.
-Firearm is pointed down range AT ALL TIMES.
-There is NO foot movement with the unbagged firearm.
-Firearm MUST be cleared by shooter, verified by timer, tagged and bagged upon finishing of stage.
